Ikea Hacking Experience

So I was looking for cheap magazine racks and came upon this set of two at Ikea.

As they came unfinished I decided to give them a new look to match my desk. Used oil-based Minwax® Wood Finish™ in English Chestnut 233 for outside and Early American 230 for inside. You can't really see the difference between those two, but anyways.

After one coat of stain sanded it with 200 sandpaper to get rid of the plywood roughness, then another coat of stain and Minwax® Polycrylic® Protective Finish in satin.

Turned out pretty sweet, with a smooth and non-glossy surface. I would recommend using water-based stain though because of the smell, but they have a slightly different color palette.
